Kisumu is a third largest city in Kenya located on the shore of Lake Victoria basin. It is a port city and known for Lakeside viewpoints from Hippo Point and Dunga Hill Camp.

1- Ndere Island National Park
Ndere is a Luo native language word which means the ‘Meeting Place’.
This is according to Luo folklore, Mikayi who is the mother of the tribe, rested up near Ndere after her long journey South Down the Nile Valley. She found the lush shoreline so pleasing that she and her people stayed.
Ndere Island is home to a variety of birds including Fish Eagles and a dense population of Swifts. Hippos and Crocodiles, including the lesser known Spotted Crocodiles, are a familiar sight.
Impalas have been introduced to the woodland which fringes the shores. Attractions include hiking, walking. It is a nice place to visit with your family or friends.
The island itself is peaceful and occupied by zebra, water buck and antelope, that along with other flaura and fauna were placed there by the government.
After getting off the boat, the guide leads you in a short walk around the island, and you can take in the views and get an impression of the lakes geography.

2- Dunga Beach
Also known as Dunga village is located along Lake Victoria where it offers an endless view of the water teeming with fish, boat riding. Dunga village also offer Tour of the Lake on the shore.

This is a unique eco-cultural attraction which has biodiversity, cultural richness, diverse papyrus ecosystem and local community respectively. The place offers great opportunity for boat riding.
Dunga Village serves as a fishing port with a spectacular site of boats unloading their catch and buyers scrambling for the best price. It is the best place for picnics and camping where you can watch Hippo from a distance.

3- Kisumu museum
Is located off the main Nairobi to Kisumu highway. The main building has scenes depicting traditional life and instruments with a few stuffed animals, highlight being the lion leaping.
There is also another building that houses a variety of fish in tanks. At the down side there is a traditional Luo village with the huts placed as they would in the traditional setting.
There is also tortoise park adjacent to this with lots of tiny tortoises keeping the giant ones company. The museum also has a large snake pit that makes for an interesting time spotting the various snakes.
Within the Museum there is a dance troupe that performs on request and are worth watching with your family or friends.

4- Kisumu Impala Sanctuary
The Impala sanctuary is a wonderful place to visit. The lace give an opportunity to see Monkeys and Ostriches, Zebras, Impala, Leopard and Lion.
There is alo a water Buffalos that are friend to all. You can have a wonderful time strolling through the park seeing the animals and learning about them.

5- Dunga Bay
It is the best places to eat and drink, There is a lots to watch as the fishing boats arrive back from their expeditions and the catch is sold off, many birds (storks, ibises, hammerkops) competing for their share of the catch as well.
Great little boardwalk through the papyrus swamps to a watchtower to do more birdwatching and generally unwind. Lovely atmosphere altogether.
You can take a Bodaboda (motorcycle taxi) to Dunga Bay and basically just walk to the dock where there are boats waiting at all times to take visitors on a boat tour.

6- The West End Shopping Mall, Kisumu
It is a nice, modern and clean mall in Kisumu city. It has a travel agent, Java House, Health U, Bank and other businesses along with a really nice hotel that has a very attractive rooftop restaurant and pool.
This mall has amble parking space and very good security. The main attraction here is the Java House, It also has a woolworth store and most importantly a healthy living store, which is well stocked and worth visiting.
7- Lake Kanyaboli National Reserve
It is located in Akara Hills and Yala swamp, and the lake is part of the Yala Swamp which is a great place for bird watching and sight seeing. It is possible to spot Sitatuga, the aquatic antelope.
However, it’s not an ordinary destination for you only have to be here if all that you want to see is birds, birds and more birds.
