1- Gaddafi Mosque
A must visit in Kampala is The Gaddafi Mosque, the main Muslim worship place in Uganda where the Uganda Muslim supreme council headquarters is located.

By far the biggest mosque in Kampala, even Uganda, can accommodate up to almost 20,000 people in its main sitting area, gallery, and terrace.

Initially, this mosque was built by Idi Amin Dada in 1972 but when Gaddafi, the late former leader of Libya visited Uganda he offered to take built a completely new mosque and funded the whole project.

Therefore the mosque is commonly known as the Gaddafi Mosque. However, after Gaddafi’s death, the mosque was renamed to Uganda National Mosque.

2- The Shri Sanatan Dharma Mandal Hindu Temple
Located very central in downtown you will find another worship place worth going when visiting Kampala. The Shri Sanatan Dharma Mandal Hindu Temple is open for visitors and free of charge.

The interior is an impressive sight. It is allowed to take photos inside, but you will be asked for a small donation.

3- Kabaka’s Palaces in Mengo and Lubiri
The Mengo palace building is built on top of one of Kampala’s major hills (Mengo) and close to the Buganda parliament (Bulange).

The palace has largely been abandoned since Kabaka Mutesa II was ousted by President Milton Obote in 1996. After the King was ousted by president Milton Obote, his replacement Idi Amin Dada turned a section of it into a notorious torture chamber.

Over 250 people are believed to have been killed at different points during president Idi Amin’s rule. Amin was ruthless to anyone he saw as a threat to his rule.

4- Independence Monument
The independence monument was built just before Uganda’s independence in October 1962. It is close to the Sheraton hotel in Kampala.

The monument is a structure of a man lifting up a child towards the sky (signifying how the country was let free after colonization). The monument is made of sand, cement, wire mesh and iron bars.

Gregory Maloba, a lecturer of Makerere University was responsible for implementing the design.

5- Visit kasubi tombs of buganda
Is the one of the four UNESCO world heritage in Uganda and the only one in Kampala. For that reason alone already the kasubi Tombs can’t be missed in this list of things to do in Kampala.

Though there are total of various sites to visit in Kampala but among of them Don’t try to miss to reach those I try to mentioned above am sure you will never regret but you will enjoy a lot.
