SGR Tanzania Has Been Launched In 2024.
SRG is an abbreviation of the English word “Standard Gauge Railway”. It is a modern railway with a width of 1.435 meters, and available worldwide for more than fifty-five percent (55%). Unlike the normal railway, this railway can transport heavy weight load and travel at high speed.
The Government of the United Republic of Tanzania through the Tanzania Railway Corporation (TRC) has decided to build this modern railway to spread a network of no less than 2,561 km connecting the regions of Dar es Salaam, Mwanza, Kigoma, Katavi and countries that have ports (Rwanda, Burundi, DRC).
SGR Tanzania is a modern railway and the first in East and Central Africa capable of passing electric trains with a speed of not less than 160 kilometers per hour.
The high-speed train on the international standard railway (SGR) from Dar es Salaam to Dodoma is expected to start next Thursday, with a journey time of three hours and 25 minutes.
THE TRAIN CATEGORIES:
This train has three classes which are;
1- Economy Class
2- Business Class
3- Royal Class
SGR Tanzania Ticket Prices
Travelers on SGR Train can pay different prices depending on the class of a particular Carriage.
You can pay Tshs. 31,000 to travel by modern railway (SGR) from Dar es Salaam to Dodoma for adults.
Tshs. 13,000 and Tsh 21,500 respectively from Dar es Salaam to Morogoro depends on class and children from 12 years old they have to pay half of it.
Economy Class: TZS 70,000
Business Class: TZS 100,000
Royal Class: TZS 120,000
Children under 4 years will not be charged, but their information is set be stored in the passenger information system.
Features And Amenities Available On SGR Tanzania
The SGR Train has many different features and amenities depending on a specific Carriage class. There are general features which available on all Carriage and this includes 2 By 2 Seating Arrangement, Air Conditioner And Television.
Specific Amenities include: Charging Sockets, On Board Bar And Restaurants, VIP Rooms, Soft and Strong Drinks, Foods, Sofa Seats, Free WiFi and many other.
SGR DAILY TIMETABLE
*The Express Train leave Dar es Salaam at 12:00 in the morning and leave Dodoma at 11:30 in the morning.
*The regular train from Dar es Salaam to Dodoma leave Dodoma at 11:30 pm and leave Dar es Salaam at 12:55 pm.
*The ordinary train from Dar es Salaam heading to Morogoro leave at 9:30am and 16:00pm and depart Morogoro at 9:50am and 16:20pm.
