    About The Company

    SGR Tanzania launched in 2024.

    SGR stands for "Standard Gauge Railway." It's a modern railway. Its width is 1.435 meters. Over 55% of railways worldwide use it. This railway handles heavy loads and high speeds. The Tanzanian government, via the Tanzania Railway Corporation (TRC), is building it. The goal is a network of at least 2,561 km.

    It will connect Dar es Salaam, Mwanza, Kigoma, Katavi. It will also connect to countries with ports (Rwanda, Burundi, DRC). SGR Tanzania is the first in East and Central Africa for electric trains.

    These trains will travel at least 160 km/h. The high-speed train from Dar es Salaam to Morogoro took about 1 hour and 15 minutes. Dar es Salaam to Dodoma took about 3 hours and 25 minutes.

    What Fleet Used By The Company?

    Tanzania SGR own and operates a modern and luxurious fleet of trains that designed for log distance journey. Most of these train are powered by Hyundai Rotem and Sung Shin Rolling Stock Technology SGR locomotive engines.

    They have more than 59 accompanying carriages and 10 electric multiple units (EMUs) from these manufacturers for the daily routes from Dar es salaam to Morogoro and Dodoma.

    These trains are diveded into three different classes which are: Economy, Business and Royal Class. Prices charged tend to differ depending on these classes.

    What Service Does This Train Offer?

    SGR Tanzania offer daily Passenger transport between Dar es salaam, Morogoro and Dodoma. Later on SGR service is expected to reach to many other regions like Tabora, Shinyanga, Mwanza and Kigoma.

    What Is The Train Routes And Prices?

    Travelers on SGR Tanzania can pay different prices depending on the class of a particular Carriage.

    You can pay Tshs. 31,000 to travel by modern railway (SGR) from Dar es Salaam to Dodoma for adults.

    Tshs. 13,000 and Tsh 21,500 respectively from Dar es Salaam to Morogoro depends on class and children from 12 years old they have to pay half of it.

    Economy Class: TZS 70,000
    Business Class: TZS 100,000
    Royal Class: TZS 120,000

    Children under 4 years will not be charged, but their information is set be stored in the passenger information system.
