Likoni Ferry is a ferry services serving the Kenyan city of Mombasa, It offer connection between Mombasa Island and the mainland town of Likoni.

THis ferry services is located in Kilindini Harbour and it ferries both road and foot traffic at the same time. Passengers are ferried for free while vehicles are charged depending on the size.

It began operation in 1937 and the ferries are operated by the Kenya Ferry Services (KFS). There are seven operating ferries which are MV Mvita, MV Pwani, MV Nyayo, MV Harambee, MV Kilindini, MV Kwale and MV Likoni and MV Jambo.

Likoni Ferry Operating Hours

The ferries operate 24 hours in 7 days of the week and It’s quite safe to do the journey at that time. Actual crossing takes between 2 and 5 minutes depending on the ferry you are on.

Ferry peak hours are during the morning around 7 to 9 AM as well as in the evening around 4 to 9PM. The frequency of the ferries reduces slightly after peak hours.

In fact returning after 9 should mean you’ll have a pretty clear run back with much less traffic than if you were to drive back earlier.

Likoni Ferry Paybill Number

In order to pay for the Ferry using the Paybill number, follow below instructions:

  1. First, select the M-PESA menu from the Safaricom sim tool kit and select Lipa na M-PESA.
  2. Next, select the “Pay Bill” option. After that, you have to enter the Kenya ferry business number. The number is 423655.
  3. Then enter your vehicle registration number (number plate). Press OK.
  4. Enter the amount you need to pay based on the category of your vehicle.
  5. Finally, enter your M-PESA PIN. Then confirm all the details once and press OK.

Other than using the paybill number, you can pay Kenya Ferry Services (Likoni Ferry) charges using a USSD code.

  1. To pay Kenya Ferry via M-pesa using the USSD code, dial *721# on your mobile phone, then follow the prompts.
  2. Choose between a Kenya ferry pass for Mombasa to Likoni or Likoni to Mombasa Choose your vehicle category or charges.
  3. Select the subtype of the vehicle. Input the registration number of the vehicle.
  4. Select the amount depending on whether the vehicle is loaded or empty.
  5. Confirm your details.
  6. Input your Mpesa PIN and send.
  7. You will receive a confirmation via SMS.

Ferry Charges / Prices For Vehicles

Kenya Ferry services charges Likoni Ferry for road traffic across Kilindini Harbour Mombasa, A payment has to be made through M-PESA.

Depending on their sizes, different vehicles are charged different amounts ranging from Ksh. 120 to Ksh. 7,900.
